Thank You:
I wish to thank my professors at St. Stephen’s University and Canadian Mennonite University for inspiring much of the content of this album, and to fellow students—most notably Sandra, Kim and Melody—for not only putting up, but playing along with my obsessions.
To my uncle, Chris, for making Grace Café the first stage to usher in my contemporary genre.
To Patrick and Lynn at Trinitea’s Cup, for my first gig here in Fredericton, subsequently taking me out of the five-month-long shadows and into the spot light I’m still in.
To Reverend Paul Ross of I Am Ministries, for assigning “Training to Fly”.
To the pastoral staff and folks in the Creative Arts department at Smythe Street Cathedral: my gratitude is immense for welcoming me to your church family, the worship team, and other similar ministries. The recordings from services helped shape some of these songs.
To April, my songwriting sister: O, the conversation pieces that come up only on music nights!
To Patrick Flanagan, Gayla MacIntosh, and BJ Edwards—for mentoring me—teaching me both to blend and to stand out (not to mention, allowing me to gain invaluable studio experience a year before embarking on this project).
To everyone involved in iFactor week at Lake Joe and beyond: Wonderful training and support—from fellow contestants and from others: Kim, Daniel, Robert, Garry, Yeena, Brook… and of course, Terry Kelly—for letting me hop on your ride—both literally and figuratively.
And for the cross-country ride I’ve already been on, many thanks go to Senator Jim Munson and Peggy Taillon.
To my fellow members of Vinyl2Bits: the bonding goes beyond musical bars and into ones like the Lunar Rogue. Your support for this project is a true blessing.
To the ladies in the cosmetics department: Donna, Shelly, Sue Lawrence Hair Spa & Gallery and Robert Simmonds Inc. With y’all around, my attitude can be that of the lilies.
To Shane Long: Thanks for turning my abstract colours into real ones – I fully trust you have done so.
And special thanks to someone who fits in all of these categories: my angel, my unrelated next-of-kin, my… I honestly can’t think of the proper common noun, but the proper noun is, Jenn Russell. I knew, from the rather unforeseen moment that I was whisked four blocks to your house (to hear five-year-old Zachary had renamed the title song) that things were going to happen – this project being but one of them. I am deeply indebted to you.
“The wind blows wherever it wishes; … you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. It is the same way with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:8
Because of its remarkable effects—great or small—we never doubt the wind. We don’t wonder whether the hurricane was just our imagination, or if the windmill will ever turn again. So we wait—wait for something that has always come. While it is ultimately unpredictable, we continue to trust it. May this recording encourage you to go freely with the Wind—when and wherever it may blow.
“If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay.”
Habakkuk 2:3
